It is surely not the best of times for star actress, Bisi Ibidapo Obe. The actress who is wallowing in deep mess over her controversial pregnancy, has relocated to Ghana where she's said to be hibernating pending delivery of her baby.
According to an industry source, the actress decided to move out of Nigeria some days back after her UK based lover, Lopez, who is said to be footing the bill of her Magodo Lagos duplex, breezed into the country and kicked her out of the house. He was said to have taken the decision after it became obvious that he was not responsible for Bisi's pregnancy. Lopez returned to the UK after locking the house and withdrawing the Range Rover he bought for her, leaving behind her C-Class Mercedes Benz and Honda Element she acquired a while back. (Though a close friend of the actress denied the house was locked by Lopez but confirmed Bisi went to Ghana)

The Chronicles of K-Solo and his Ex-wife Kike!!! The end of the Saga???

K-Solo and Kike back in the days
K-Solo with new fiancee, Bimbo

For some time now, the marriage of popular music producer, Oyeniyi Solomon otherwise known as K-Solo has been an item for public consumption.
His estranged wife, Kikelomo, who he reportedly met in September 2011 and got married to in November 2011, accused him of battering her (with photo evidence). Soon after, both were on Channels TV where they were reported to have confessed that the whole controversies were just acting as they were only catching fun.

But the sad love story is now very different. Read on.....

Last Saturday, Kike, as Kikelomo is fondly called, gave birth to a baby boy but it appears the music producer and singer denied the paternity of the child.
In a latest interview K-Solo's manager, Funmi Mensah, spoke extensively on his (K-Solo) ordeal with Kike while both were still together as husband and wife. Funmi explained that due to a court case pending on the matter, K-Solo would not be permitted to speak on the issue.
She informed that Kike has again moved out of her matrimonial home about four weeks ago for reasons best known to her.
Funmi narrated the whole story about how K-Solo ran out of his house because of Kike, how Kike allegedly attempted to food poison K-Solo and other shocking revelations. Excerpt:
Who are you My name is Funmi Mensah, I am also called FMG
How are you to K-Solo I am his manager
There have been issues concerning his marriage with Kikelomo, what is your take on it Let me come in this way, I have been watching how this saga started. I advise him as a mother and a wife on how to handle such situations, especially when it comes to speaking about it publicly. He listens to my advice. It started like this, In April 2012, we planned to organize an event for him like an album launch. He told me about issues in his marriage, I told him to take things easy with his wife, Kike and never go too far about taking any bad actions.
Few days later, he told me that he met the door locked when he got home. I asked him about his wife and he said she was not at home and that she might have gone to her parents’ house. I told him to always contact her on phone and pet her.
On May 1, 2012, I asked K-Solo when was the last time he spoke with Kike, he told me it has been a while. I told him that it wasn't fair enough even though he is angry with her. I told him to send an SMS to Kike, he then said he doesn’t know what to send to Kike. I told him I would do that for him because as a woman, I know the kind of words my man can send to me that would soften my mind. K-Solo later told me he has sent the text message to her. I was shocked when K-Solo showed me Kike’s reply to the SMS. I was amazed at how a woman would reply with such an SMS. I asked if he was sure Kike was his wife and the owner of the pregnancy.
What was the content of the SMS because this is a recorded interview The content of the SMS asked if K-Solo was mad and he should not even think he is the owner of the pregnancy any child anywhere and that none of his family members would set their eyes on the child when she is delivered of the baby. She also swore in the text. I just told K-Solo that she might have sent that SMS out of annoyance. But later, in June, I called on K-Solo concerning the event we should started plans on in April on his album launch. City People was also involved in it.
One morning in June, when we were with Seye Kehinde, the publisher of City People, at his office, one of K-Solo’s boys called that Kike said she was coming to the studio. I told K-Solo to call his wife to inform her that we were at City People’s office. He then said it was not necessary because she would know that he is not in the studio when she gets there. When we were coming back, we met her at Acme, Ogba. Immediately she sighted us, she drove back and followed us to the studio.
Before that time, she has been harassing me on phone calling me names but I didn’t alter a word back at her. So, when she followed us back to the studio after our meeting at City People, K-Solo told his driver to take me away. I kicked against it because I felt doing that would make Kike feel we have something to hide from her because I was still within the official duty hours and also coming from an official meeting. She started calling me a prostitute and other names. I didn’t alter a word. I just left away from her. Later on, I heard her shouting that she did the wedding for him and all others she wrote in the magazine. I advised K-Solo to leave the environment in order to avoid her for that moment.
Surprisingly, after K-Solo left, we just saw a Toyota Camry dropped some people who later banged the door threatening us to open the door or break it and force their way inside. My brother, we are in Lagos where anybody can just gun anybody down without leaving traces and the security agencies not getting the killers. If they can do such to top government officials and they have still not found their killers, who are we?
Later, the PA told me to leave the studio. The PA then tried to escape me through the back door not knowing that some policemen were already stationed there because Kike knows routes to the studio. She put off the generator to make everywhere remain silent. So, when the PA opened the door, they hit him with their gun and headed straight to the studio. I quickly hid myself behind the door and seized my breath until I escaped.
Her intention was to arrest me and K-Solo and possibly snap us together. I was in a place watching what was happening. She burst into her mother-in-law’s room, packed everything there and arrested the boys working for K-Solo. They also arrested someone that came to record at the studio. The operation lasted for about 30mins. After they (the police) left, I went to Pen Cinema police station to file a report on the incident.
That was when again? That was in early June. I drove down to my sister’s place at G.R.A, who knows the AIG Zone 2. He (AIG) then called them at SARS (Special Anti Robbery Squad), Ikeja, Lagos, where we later discovered they took the arrested boys to. When I got to SARS, I asked if they knew where they went to make arrests from? I also asked if the person that reported the case to them told them the truth of what actually happened before making the arrests? I told them that the woman that reported the case to them is a married woman and the man they wanted to arrest is her husband and the boys are his staffs.
I asked what has a civil case got to do with an anti robbery squad. They now brought pictures that the woman (Kike) told them that one Mr. Solomon Oyeniyi stole her jewelry worth N2.5million and threatened to kill her if she (Kike) doesn’t provide Range Rover Sport worth N7.5million for him (K-Solo), left with N400,000 when he was leaving the house.
I then asked them if they tried investigating K-Solo from people around before making their arrest? I then explained the matter to them and we were able to get the guys out that day from the station. They asked if they could see K-Solo, I told them I am his manager and would provide him in two days time because he was not in town.
When I later saw Kike, I asked that if she was not a desperate woman and with what she has written in the papers, how can she spend N2.5million to do a wedding for a man? How can she meet a man in September and do a wedding in November? Did she not know that someone was there (K-Solo’s life) before her? Did she not know that K-Solo was with a 7-year relationship? Don’t she know the person? I also asked if K-Solo was not a celebrity before she met him because she claimed to be feeding him and his boys. I know as a woman, before we marry a man, we want to be sure of his financial status and prospects. I informed her about how she first sent a request to him on Blackberry with the date and time. I then told her that if she claimed to have spent N10million or whatever for K-Solo, she did that when she was in love and was never forced to do that.
I was probably the only one who could face her about these things because she mentioned almost everybody’s name in her interview. I then asked her with the way she says something bad about this man (K-Solo), what should the lady he dated for seven years that left because of her (Kike) say? People even thought it was that lady (Bimbo) that got married to K-Solo and were calling her (Bimbo) Mrs. K-Solo. I asked her if she has ever thought of that humiliation Bimbo might have gone through with that? After the wedding, she (Kike) always go by Bimbo’s shop to pack her ‘Mrs. K-Solo’ customized car. Did she (Bimbo) do anything to her?
I told Kike that Bimbo was married the same way she (Kike) was married. K-Solo did an introduction with Bimbo. The only thing he didn’t do with her was the Court registry. Her (Bimbo's) bride price was paid and a wedding engagement rite was performed. Now, if a man can date a woman for seven years without battering, she owns a shop and lives large, how come you claim he is a gigolo and beats you? Kike then responded that I shouldn’t interfere in what I don’t know. I told her that Kike, as far as I know, I am older than you. I have started everything in this world before you started. I told her that her interview was full of lies.
I told her that my husband is hot tempered, but he would never pull out his belt to beat me in a public place let alone a celebrity that has a name to protect. In a world f Blackberry and social media, if K-Solo beats you in Shoprite, you (Kike) won’t be the one to tell the world that he beat you. Now, why has no one come out with the picture where he beat you at Shoprite? Did he collect people’s phone to delete the pictures?
The cheapest washing machine at Shoprite is expensive and heavy, how would K-Solo have carried a washing machine to throw at her? People should reason about this. I have worked with many people in the industry both single and married, I have never been accused of sleeping with them. I told K-Solo that I only respected him for the insults I have received from Kike.
It is a known fact that average Nigerian men commit adultery. It is not a new thing, it happens in almost every sector. Even if you catch your man sleeping around, that ring and marriage you did, 1000 women want it. K-Solo even told her that this Bimbo she is flaring up about is his ex. If he (K-Solo) was as bad as Kike is painting him, they wouldn’t still be talking by now. Bimbo is the sole problem Kike has. He even told Kike to make her (Kike’s) ex be their family friends if she can provide them. Till today, she has not brought anyone as her ex. That is the extent K-Solo was nice to her.
K-Solo invested in Bimbo’s life and it would not be good for him to abandon her because he married another woman. Bimbo was even at K-Solo’s album launch. She even told City People that if there is anyone that can tell everything about K-Solo, she (Bimbo) will tell 1miilion things about him. Bimbo’s parents have been very nice and kind to him. Her father is a respected Imam. If they can hold K-Solo as a son, and Kike then calls them babalawo (herbalists), then, she is out to cause problem between K-Solo and Bimbo’s parents. Bimbo’s father would become a king in Itokun land in Abeokuta very soon. I have not met them before but K-Solo has told me a lot about them.
There was a lady (Ify) she (Kike) mentioned in that interview that lives in the US, she is K-Solo’s manager in America. K-Solo is really blessed with good women who always want to help him. But this ‘lunatic’ of a woman, quote me, she is a lunatic, goes about to say things. Because, if you are big, you are big, you don’t need to blow your trumpet. if she claims to be a big girl, let her go and snap pictures of where her parents stay and put on the internet.
Where do her parents stay? The old Festac, Satellite. Her parents still drive that 504 old model and she claims to be rich and make noise all over. All of K-Solo’s family members leave abroad. He can live without music and still be rich. During his album launch, all his sisters came from abroad to attend the launch and for this marriage saga.
Back to my police case narration, we got a letter from Abuja to transferring the case from SARS to Zone 2 Headquarters, Lagos. The IPO told K-Solo that he notice this woman (Kike) wants a reconciliation and that was the reason for her doing all what she has been doing as she may not know how to go about it. He then advised that the couple should settle the case amicably, which he did.
On my birthday, she drove down to the studio and asked after K-Solo, I told him he was in the studio. They spoke for about six hours. Since then, they were back together again. Though his family were not happy with K-Solo for not informing them of his intention to take Kike back after all what she said about him in the papers, but he told them that the woman was carrying his baby. My brother, K-Solo filled every loopholes that this woman was complaining about. I was even the person that went to pay her house rent, I still have the tellers with me which has my name on it.
He made sure Kike was comfortable to the extent of providing everything she needed in the house. I think K-Solo has pictures of her before their first marriage saga and after they reconciled. She was looking good. Is such man not responsible?
Even the baby things K-Solo bought for the baby, Kike threw them in the booth and left the house. Before then, she was telling people that K-Solo is sleeping with his manager. I told K-Solo that this is the right time to face this woman even though I don’t support divorce. If Kike doesn’t have a name to protect, me, I have names to protect. I have children and families that value me.
We just have to let the world know the truth. She knows what she does for a living but she would use her mouth to say it to the world when the time comes. I know this is a husband and wife affair, I know a lot of people would say this. They would also say what is my own in all these but I want to tell them that I know it is a family matter but I am part of the family because I work with K-Solo. He puts food on my table. After they fought, I begged him and made sure he went back to Kike.
I was about asking what did you do in settling their differences I did all I could. Kike can confirm this. He sometimes takes the staffs’ money to take care of her. Let me tell you, he registered her at Blue Cross, Ogba. K-Solo took the first money we made after their reconciliation to pay her house rent, which I went to pay. The second money we got from another job was used in changing her hospital from Blue Cross to Isalu hospital.
Whenever he tells me he wants any money to do anything for his family, I don’t contest it. Despite that other staffs were denied some things since all these started, we don’t complain because we want her to live comfortable.
Now, on the controversial interview with Channels TV, why did K-Solo put up that defense that they were acting Thank you, they (Channels TV) called me that they wanted to grant K-Solo an interview, which I relayed to him. That day, K-Solo told me that Kike said she would want to go with him for the interview because she was bored at home, I told him to allow her go with him. Could you believe that Kike was sitting at the reception when the interview was on. The presenter said 'I think your madam is here too', K-Solo answered yes. They now asked her to join them. She was the one that opened her mouth to say those things. She was the one that said it was a publicity stunt. She even said that she wanted to use the opportunity to apologise to her mother-in-law and others she has offended during the saga.
Was it a live programme Yes, it was a live program but was also recorded.
Because I wanted to ask why didn’t K-Solo not say the truth about Kike’s claim that it was a publicity stunt. What was his reaction His reaction was funny and shocking
What was the interview intended for It was intended to be about his career as K-Solo. They (Channels TV) were already talking to Kike but K-Solo told them to do an interview with him and not Kike but she insisted that she wanted to do an interview with them. He was already prepared to tell Channels that it was family and that he was there for his career related issue if they ask him about his marriage issues.
He knew they would bring the issue up, but Kike barged in to speak about it. It would be bad for him to go other way on air when Kike had already started speaking about the issue. He just had to say they were just having fun. Channels reported that it was a publicity stunt and everybody took it like that.
So, why didn’t you or K-Solo come out to debunk it when it became an issue Doing that would have created more avenue for people to blow everything out of proportion. So, it was good we just let it go that way because the most important thing was that they were back together. She brought her shame out for the world to see. He had to keep quiet about it because he has a name to protect. You can’t say someone beat you to the extent of losing the first and second pregnancy and you still remained with such man, what are you doing with the person.
But what if true love is invloved here Which kain love be that (what kind of love is that)? God punish that love. Women are like phones, they can flush memory cards. Men are like memory card to them. If you sleep with a woman now, and she goes out to see a man that promises her marriage, she would make the man see her like a woman that has never be wooed in her entire life. You know what that means, it means the man that just slept with her has been flushed away.
K-Solo left his house for Kike, that was how bad it was. Do you what that means; frustration. These happened before she arranged those lies against K-Solo.
Today, the only person that talks to K-Solo in his family is his mum, all because of Kike. He called Kike’s brother after Kike confessed to her brother that K-Solo has been taking good care of her since their comeback. Now, K-Solo does not want Kike to be tagged with his name because of the damage she has done to it already and she is not ready to change. I can confirm to you that K-Solo owes Kike a birthday gift which would be presented to her.
When is that The birthday gift is soon but she has a wedding gift on her wedding anniversary.
But do you know why he contracted the marriage with Kike in the first place To tell you the truth, as K-Solo once told me, he wanted to cancel the wedding a day before the wedding day but his mum reminded him of the name his father has built before he died. She (his mum) told him of his father’s words that if he cannot build on his name, he should at least not spoil it, which was why he went ahead with the wedding as the only boy in the family.
Some have said that K-Solo is one of the few celebs that doesn’t have a love child from a babymama, but this is because of the legacy his father left for him to follow. He married Kike because he didn’t want people to feel like he impregnated a woman and didn’t end up marrying her. For 15 years now, K-Solo has stayed without a scandal after producing top artistes in Nigeria not until Kike came.
She has wrong people around her like Toni Payne. Let her (Toni Payne) go back and fix her own. She started to manage artiste, where are they today? They are down. Where is W4, Adol, Olamide and others? She has started her TV programme, let me tell you the truth, it would go down as well. Let her go back to her man (9ice). Kike claims to love K-Solo and she does all these harms. If she says that she left because K-Solo beat her up the first time, why did she leave again this time?
You should know that she has a problem. Her mother is a prophetess and she can’t fix the spiritual problem her daughter has. They always say a prophet does not see vision of themselves. But her mother should not feel too proud to consult other prophets to help her daughter out.
Thank God Kike didn’t know K-Solo before his father died, she would have said she bought the casket used for K-Solo's dad's burial. If K-Solo had made his money through rituals, Kike would have told the world about it. No man would like to marry the likes of Kike because she would expose them if they ever involve in shady deals. Can she prove that K-Solo has slept with me? Let her go and bring her school certificate out to show the world.
Secondary school or university certificates Both. She should also bring her international passport to show us how many countries she has traveled to. She has only traveled to South Africa once. And she claims to have traveled to many countries. What company has she worked with?
The car she is driving is the one she duped someone of. There was a day she mistakenly called K-Solo’s sister thinking she was speaking with her mother saying she has put what her mother (Kike's mum) told her (Kike) to put in the food. K-Solo’s sister (name withheld) was surprised about this revelation. When she realized that she just spoke with her sister-in-law, she changed the talk to say she (Kike) only wanted to inform her (K-Solo’s sister) that they had settled their quarrels. Kike is fetish, but people would not understand that K-Solo has been going through hell in his marriage.
This is an advice to men who want to marry, they should not marry any woman that lives alone in her apartment but a woman that lives with her parents. What this means is that woman that lives with her parents would be a virtuous woman and would be where you leave her.
I just want to warn her to stop all her threats. Now that she has put to bed, I want her to fulfill her threat of striping me naked to get pictures of me to put on the internet. K-Solo is back with Bimbo and things are coming back to normal. Everybody she has chased away are now back.
Do you mean they are engaged? Yes, Bimbo and K-Solo are engaged.
So, when is the wedding bell ringing? We would definitely inform you.
I want to tell her to stop tarnishing my image. K-Solo has been severally stabbed by Kike. How do you expect K-Solo to accept the child whose pregnancy Kike has was told K-Solo not to believe to be responsible for as she wrote in her text message? He doesn’t even know the hospital the baby was born
Lastly, if you are a single man and you want to choose a woman to marry as wife, pray to God to give a wife like Kike for your entire life. And if you are a mother, and has a son that wishes to marry a woman, pray to have somebody like Kike as a daughter-in-law. Anybody that is ready should say an amen to that prayer and it would be so.
Who are you My name is Funmi Mensah, I am also called FMG

BIMBO K-solo Where do her parents stay?
One day, after their comeback, K-Solo was looking bad after flipping through her Ipad. I asked what the problem was, he said he saw some disturbing message bout Kike. I told him not to bother himself about it. He didn’t tell me the content of the message. He later told another day that the the message he talked about that day was a love message and that it was between Kike and a pastor (name withheld but a popular pastor). He forwarded the messages to me, I was shocked. I then told him that during the chats happened between the pastor and Kike, she was in pregnancy.
Even the baby things K-Solo bought for the baby, Kike threw them outside the house and left the house.
Baby tins behind the booth of the car I was about asking what did you do in settling their differences? I did all I could.
Now, on the controversial interview with Channels TV, why did K-Solo put up that defence that they were acting
Thank you, they (Channels TV) called me that they wanted to grant K-Solo an interview, which I relayed to him.
What was his reaction? His reaction was funny and shocking
So, why didn’t you or K-Solo come out to debunk it when it became an issue? Doing that would have created more avenue for people to blow everything out of proportion.
KIKE'S DRAMA But what if true love is involved here Which kain love be that (what kind of love is that)? God punish that love. Women are like phones, they can flush memory cards. Men are like memory card to them. If you sleep with a woman now, and she goes out to see a man that promises her marriage, she would make the man see her like a woman that has never be wooed in her entire life. You know what that means, it means the man that just slept with her has been flushed away.
K-Solo left his house for Kike, that was how bad it was. Do you what that means; frustration. These happened before she arranged those lies against K-Solo. She confessed to K-Solo, after she came back to him, that a top writer (name withheld) with City People motivated her to give that interview she had with them. This is a guy also claims to be K-Solo’s friend.
When is that? The birthday gift is soon but she has a wedding gift on her wedding anniversary.
But do you know why he contracted the marriage with Kike in the first place? To tell you the truth, K-Solo wanted to cancel the wedding a day before the wedding day but his mum reminded him of the name his father has built before he died. She (his mum) told him of his father’s words that if he cannot build on his name, he should at least not spoil it, which was why he went ahead with the wedding as the only boy in the family.
Some members of that pastor who Kike was sending love messages to once told K-Solo that he was just keeping Kike for others (men). Scandals entered K-Solo’s life when Kike came into his life. When Kike came back, K-Solo found out that some Nigerian artistes were involved in her. One of them (name withheld) even sent her a picture of his manhood. We even heard she used to be a call girl. She doesn’t have a family. K-Solo has not picked on her family since the saga started but Kike has insulted K-Solo's family and others.
Some have said that K-Solo is one of the few celebs that doesn’t have a love child from a baby mama, but this is because of the legacy his father left for him to follow.
BEFORE BEFORE Secondary school or university certificates Both. She should also bring her international passport to show us how many countries she has travelled to. She has only travelled to South Africa once. And she claims to have travelled to many countries.
When she realised that she just spoke with her sister-in-law, she changed the talk to say she (Kike) only wanted to inform her (K-Solo’s sister) that they had settled their quarrels.
Now that she has put to bed, I want her to fulfil her threat of striping me naked to get pictures of me to put on the Internet.
Watch out for more revealing secrets K-Solo has about his troubled marriage with Kike. We hope to bring them to you.

News Update: Achebe’s civil war book, a propaganda – Gowon

Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon
Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon

Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, has described Prof. Chinua Achebe’s Nigerian Civil War memoir in his latest book, There was a Country, as “a propaganda”.
Achebe in the book, accused the Federal Government under Gowon and the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who was then the Minister of Finance, of using hunger as a weapon of war against the Republic of Biafra.
But Gowon, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone on Tuesday, said though many books had been written about the civil war, none had been as controversial as that of Achebe.
He said the book was “written to whip up unnecessary sentiments”.
He said when he releases his biography many will know what happened during the war.
Gowon said, “Many books have been written about the civil war and unfortunately none had been as controversial as that of Achebe, which accused me and Chief Awolowo of genocide against the Igbo. Nothing can be further from the truth, because every decision we took was for the interest of a united Nigeria.
“It (Achebe’s book) is nothing more than a propaganda and many people have failed to see it that way, and that is why most of the reactions have been varied and vitriolic.
“I am not aware of any Igboman that had an account with the then Barclays Bank that was seized, because at the end of the war many of them got their money back. And it was because of our resolve to ensure that there was no victor no vanquished. We wanted to put the experience of the civil war behind us. We put in place a lot of measure to ensure that everybody was reintegrated into a united Nigeria.
“So it is very unfortunate for Achebe to accuse me and Awolowo of starving the Igbo to death.”
The Chairman of Nigeria Prays added the majority of of the principal actors at the end of the war did not appear as if they were starved.
He said he stood by every decision he took during the civil war and ready to defend his actions anywhere.
The former Chief of Army Staff denied that he prevented foreign aid from reaching the Igbo during the war.
Gowon added, “Most of those who accused us of genocide were looking well fed at the end of the war. During the war we opened road and air corridors to allow food, medicine and other aids to the people. Nobody can do such a thing to his people because I was optimistic that the war would end one day and we shall come together under a united country.
“So that was why we were very careful about every decision we took during the civil war
The 78-year-old said by the time he publishes his own account of the war, most of those insinuations would be laid to rest.
“I have been sufficiently challenged and the whole truth will be revealed one day,” he said.

News Update: Ajimobi’s wife denies money laundering arrest in London

Wife of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, Florence

Wife of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, Florence

Wife of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, Florence, has denied reports of her arrest by the Metropolitan Police in London.
Speaking with journalists in a telephone interview on Tuesday, the governor’s wife described the news of her arrest as the handiwork of the opposition trying to discredit the Ajimobi-led administration in the state.
An evening newspaper had, on Tuesday in its online version, published a report entitled ‘Anxiety over Florence Ajimobi’s alleged arrest in UK.’ An online agency, Newsleak, also claimed that the wife of the governor had been arrested in London for money laundering.
Asked if she was invited by the police since her arrival in London, she said, “No, not at all. I came back with my daughter on Sunday. Now, I am getting ready to come back home. I have not been invited by the police and I don’t know what all this is about.”
On the reason for her latest trip abroad, she said she took her 14-year-old daughter back to school after her holiday.
She said, “I have a 14-year-old daughter who has been here since 2007. She came to Nigeria for two weeks; we left Nigeria on Sunday morning. That is my mission here.
“I read the report here in England. I was shocked. I read it but there is no iota of truth in everything they wrote. I’m sure it is the work of the opposition and I am surprised that some people can descend so low to write falsehood.
“I am expected back in the country tomorrow (today) morning.”
Asked to confirm the allegation that she had since the inception of the administration travelled for 52 times, she simply said, “It then means I am not living in Nigeria. Maybe, when I travel back, I will show you my passport to count how many times I have travelled.
“I want you to deal with facts. If you look at my passport since 2007 and compare the way I travelled then with the way I travel now, you will discover that I travel less now.
“My daughter is complaining that I am not regular here. I make her come to Nigeria more because I can’t afford to spend 10 days or more over here.”
Meanwhile, the governor has instituted a N1bn suit against the Independent Communications Network Limited, publishers of PM News for the report.
One of the governor’s aide, who preferred anonymity, said, “So far the governor has spent 68 weeks. How do you reconcile the claim that the First Lady has travelled 52 times since the inception of this administration? Does it mean that she travels every week?”

News Update: “There’s no issue of my husband sleeping with my daughter” – St Janet denies her marriage is over

A few weeks ago, it was reported that lewd singer St Janet, caught her husband with her 16-year-old daughter in bed and their marriage had ended. The stories also had it that the singer had moved out of the house and was now living in a hotel.
She has now come out to deny such reports, saying that although her marriage is not perfect, that nothing of the sort happened.
“When I read the story I was shocked,” she said. “I don’t know where it came from. Nothing of such happened to me or anybody I know. My marriage is not perfect but it’s intact. There’s no issue of my husband sleeping with my daughter.
St Janet also went on to deny that she had any female child, as carried in the stories.
“I don’t even have a 16 year old daughter. I have younger sisters who live with me, but nothing of such ever happened. I strongly believe my detractors are at work. I am strongly investigating where the story came from. It it targeted towards my career and they felt the best way they could go about it is to go about spreading false tales about my personal life.”

London Metropolitan Police confirms arrest of Governor Ajimobi’s wife

Metropolitan Police has confirmed the arrest of Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, wife of Oyo state Governor, over money laundering.
The Met confirmation came this afternoon following an enquiry by P.M.NEWS on the story making the rounds that Mrs. Ajimobi was arrested in London, with the sum of 400,000 pounds and thousands of US dollars, valued at N500million.
The Met simply said ‘Yes’ to our question, seeking confirmation about the arrest.
However, the organization declined to give further information about the matter, citing a UK law.
“I am sorry, we are unable to disclose any information to you under the Data Protection Act,” an officer in the MET Lambeth Office responded.
There was anxiety in the government circles of Nigeria’s Oyo State this morning over the arrest of Mrs. Ajimobi.
Reports on the web and some blogs claimed that the woman was arrested two weeks ago by the London Metropolitan Police on her 52nd trip to the UK since her husband became governor 17 months ago.
London Met Police has not issued any statement about her alleged arrest. And her name drew blank in a search of the Met Police website by P.M.NEWS.
The unconfirmed reports claimed that Governor Abiola Ajimobi has had to fly to the UK to get her bailed. Mrs. Ajimobi has a North London address in Golders Green and ordinarily visits the UK.
So far, the Oyo state government has kept mute over this story. And the disappearance of Governor Ajimobi from Ibadan, the capital for some two days has further given some ammunition to the purveyors of the news about his wife, styled The First Lady of Oyo state.
Governor Ajimobi was in office today, but bearers of the tale about the wife, have been unrelenting.
Mrs. Ajimobi’s personal staff at Agodi have also not issued denials of any sort.
Miss Yemisi Dada, Special Assistant on Media to Chief Mrs. Ajimobi on a phone interaction at exactly 8:11am claimed that she was not in Ibadan at the time of the telephone conversation adding that she was not aware of such development.
“I cannot talk about that. I am not aware of what you are talking about and besides, I am not in Ibadan right now. Meanwhile, I will find out the correct situation and get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks”.

MAY D MAY ENTER INTO TROUBLE WITH PSQAURE

Click for Full Image Size

Akinmayokun May D Awodumila might be spooling for another fresh war or may be telling the world that the battle between him and the sensational twin singer, P Square is finally over as he performed two of Paul and Peter Okoye’s songs at the Felabration 2012, New Afrika Shrine, Lagos.
Though some of the stakeholders in the industry said that, May D may or may not know what he has done what is termed plagiarism; but the tides are already heating up and soon, there may be just another messy war between him and Square Rcords barely two months after he was dropped by the label.
During his performance at the recently held Felabration 2012, at the New Afrika Shrine on Friday, October 19, the pop singer kicked off his performance with Psquare’s ‘Do as I do‘ which features Tiwa Savage and himself. He then goes on to perform his first single ‘Soundtrack‘ before following with Psquare’s ‘Chop my money‘. He didn’t stop there as he went quickly into his award winning single Soundtrack before diving headlong into Chop my Money. May D wrapped up his act with his hit single Ile Ijo. In all of P Square’s songs performed on this night, May D didn’t stick to his lines; rather, he took the entire songs from start to finish.
The crowd, however, didn’t seem to notice or perhaps were not bothered as they hollered and danced away the entire time. Square Records boss Jude Engees Okoye had in a statement issued in August this year announced that the label was severing ties with May D due to irreconcilable differences. A month later, May D launched own label Confam Entertainment. His single Soundtrack fetched him the ‘Best R&B Single’ award at The Headies this year.

News Update: Lola Alao replies Bisi Ibidapo-Obe over pregnancy scandal

"Bisi should leave me out of her pregnancy mess. How can an adult like her not know who impregnated her? Is Bisi a small girl, that I Lola, will now carry and give Hon Dino to date? It is sad that she has dragged him into this mess.
"Is she the first actor or actress that Dino will help? Why is she making a deal out of meeting Dino? Dino has been my friend for years and was even at my movie premiere several month back where he donated N10million.
"I wish to state categorically that I have never dated Dino, I am not dating him and can never date him because he's like a brother from another mother. It is quite unfortunate that Bisi is scandalizing Dino this way.
"Everything smacks of blackmail to me. Maybe she thinks since Dino donated N10million at my launch, she can scandalize him and make some money off him. I leave her to her conscience." -- Yoruba actress Lola Alao told City People in a recent interview.
It would be recalled that Bisi Ibidapo-Obe had claimed that her colleague, Lola Alao, introduced her to Hon Dino Melaye, who she claimed got her pregnant. She also alleged that Lola, after having introduced her to Dino, started dating the ex-lawmaker.

At 80, Babalola teaches law at ABUAD

Babalola teaching at ABUAD on Wednesday.Babalola teaching at ABUAD on Wednesday.

To say that the Proprietor, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), is passionate about education is to say the least. He does not just love education; he has sponsored the education of many less privileged Nigerians. Besides, he has been on the council of many universities until he established ABUAD. Now 80, Babalola, who started out in life as a teacher, has gone back to the classroom as a lecturer in his own university. He had ventured into the law profession after some years of teaching in some secondary schools. He even became a vice-principal before he ventured into the law profession. But today, Babalola is now back in the classroom where he teaches courses in Law of Evidence and Leadership in ABUAD.
Our correspondent had visited him for an interview in commemoration of his 80th birthday. But rather than acceding to the request for a birthday interview, the education enthusiast said he could only talk about education.
“I’m not celebrating any birthday. Let’s talk about education, the future of our nation,” he said.
But during the interview our correspondent discovered that the prominent lawyer, apart from administering the institution and his thriving law firm, also engages in teaching. The following morning our correspondent visited the institution to see the legal luminary in class teaching his students.
As a rule, no student comes late to the class because there is no justification for lateness. The lecture room is just a stone throw away from their hostel. But Babalola, the lecturer travels about 20 kilometres to the university. He arrives the campus by 7.30am, spends about 20 minutes at the main gate monitoring movement into the varsity.
After this routine last Wednesday, he went straight to his class where the students were already waiting for him. After the normal salutation, Babalola, introduced his topic on Law of Evidence. His class started by 8am.
The soft spoken lawyer class was not dull as he intermittently asked them questions amidst jokes.
Babalola said that teaching was not new to him as he had taught before both in the secondary school and at the Institute of Advance Legal Studies. Though the class was lively, Babalola did not condone indiscipline. Any student caught disrupting the class or was found not concentrating in class was asked to stand at the back of the class throughout the duration of the lecture.
During the lecture witnessed by our correspondent, Babalola narrated how he won the long-drawn legal battle which led to the removal of the former Olugbo, Prince Adebanjo Mafimisebi from the throne after about 24 years. According to him, his mastery of the Law of Evidence helped him to win the case.
Babalola told the students that he was able to get an intelligence report and the Morgan Report, which he said, the court relied upon to arrive at its judgment.
Apart from teaching, he runs the university and his thriving law firms from the institution.
The octogenarian, who said he did not know the exact date he was born, said that most of his mates were older than the age he adopted.
Babalola said he decided to teach after some of the university students persuaded him to do so.
“Some of the students came to me from our College of Law that I should teach them and I took up the challenge by taking them some courses including Law of Evidence, which is a very difficult course in law,” he said.
Some of his students who spoke with our correspondent said though jovial in class, Babalola would not condone laziness in any of his students.
“You cannot come to his class late. He is a disciplinarian but he loves you when you are serious and live by the rule,” one of them said.
Babalola added that apart from law, the university also exposed the students to entrepreneurial education and agriculture.
“Our students are taught entrepreneurial studies and agriculture as a way of encouraging them to develop interest in agriculture and to be self-reliant. This is the way I think universities should affect their communities,” he said.
But at 80, Babalola is still as active as ever. His day is not complete if he has not visited his farm. “After my day’s work in the university, I make sure I go to the farm. I do this daily because it has therapeutic effect on me. I don’t need sleeping pills to sleep after going through the rough terrain in the farm,” he said.
He said that ABUAD had begun to have positive impacts on the host community in the area of employment generation and food supply.

FG reopens 3rd Mainland Bridge today

FG reopens 3rd Mainland Bridge today

The Federal Government will today (Tuesday) reopen the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, one week ahead of the scheduled delivery date of November 6, 2012.
The government had partially closed the bridge on July 7 to enable the contractor, Messrs Boroni Prono and Company Limited, to replace eight expansion joints on the bridge for a contract sum of N1bn.
The reopening of the bridge will come as a welcome relief to motorists and commuters, who have had to connect Lagos Island, Victoria Island, Lekki, Ajah and Epe from different parts of the mainland through Western Avenue due to restriction of vehicular movement on the bridge from 12 noon to 12am, while opening for movement to the mainland within the same time.
The Special Adviser to the Minister of Works on Media, Mr. Tony Ikpasaja, confirmed the reopening of the bridge in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Monday.
According to him, the Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, will open the rehabilitated bridge to motorists at a ceremony that will also have in attendance federal and Lagos State government officials and other stakeholders.
Onolememen had said during an inspection tour of the bridge on August 10, “The inspection visit is to track the progress that the contractor has made; whether actual progress is in line with our planned programme. I am happy to announce that the physical progress in not only in line with our programme, but there has been a gain of approximately one week, which is very commendable.
“It means that if we sustain the momentum, we will be able to deliver the project ahead of the scheduled delivery date of November 6, 2012.”
He had explained that the Federal Government decided to rehabilitate the bridge, which is the longest and most travelled in the country, because of its commitment to giving due attention to infrastructure in Lagos State, which he said was attracting about 53 per cent of commercial activities in the country.
As parts of efforts to minimise the disruptions to free flow of traffic in the metropolis, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority had deployed 700 officers to the bridge and traffic points on the alternative routes.
Officers of the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, Federal Road Safety Corps and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps joined their LASTMA colleagues in managing the attendant traffic.

Abdusalami’s company loses Lagos power firms, gets Ibadan

Former Head of State, Gen, Abdusalami Abubakar

Against expectations that the firm being backed by a former Head of State, Gen, Abdusalami Abubakar, Integrated Energy Distribution and Marketing Limited, will get at least two of the biggest power distribution companies in the country, it has been given only the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.
The company had led other bidders for the Eko, Ikeja and Ibadan distribution companies, considered to be the biggest and most commercially viable in the country, when the bids were earlier opened on October 16, 2012.
However, the National Council on Privatisation on Monday, in approving the outcome of the financial bid opening for the Power Holding Company of Nigeria’s successor generation and distribution companies, named Integrated Energy as the winner for the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company with NEDC/KEPCO approved as the reserve bidder.
Significantly, the consortium being backed by the Ekiti, Delta, Edo and Ondo State governments to acquire 60 per cent stake in the Benin Distribution Company, Southern Electricity Distribution Company, was disqualified for submitting two different bids in violation of the rules.
Instead, the company went to Vigeo Power Consortium.
One of the rules guiding the privatisation process states that no company can be allowed to win more than two bids.
In addition, no company will be allowed to win both the Ikeja and Eko Electricity Distribution Companies, which collectively generate about 45 per cent of the total revenue of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria.
Instead of giving the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to Interstate Electronics Limited, being promoted by business mogul, Mr. Emeka Ofor, which emerged the top bidder by offering Average Technical, Commercial and Collection loss reduction of 21.62 per cent, NCP awarded the company to Kann Consortium Utility Company Limited.
The Eko Distribution Company went to West Power & Gas, which came third behind Integrated Energy and New Electricity Distribution Company Consortium, while Honeywell Energy Resources International Limited, which came fourth in the bid opening round, was approved as the reserve bidder.
For the Enugu Distribution Company, Interstate Electrics Limited was named as the preferred bidder, while Eastern Electric Nigeria Ltd was approved as the reserve bidder.
For the Ikeja Distribution Company, New Electricity Distribution Company/KEPCO emerged as the preferred bidder, while Vigeo Power Consortium was approved as the reserve bidder.
The Jos Distribution Company has Aura Energy Limited as the preferred bidder.
Sahelian Power SPV Limited was named as the preferred bidder for the Kano Distribution Company; 4Power Consortium emerged as the preferred bidder for the Port Harcourt Distribution Company.
For the Yola Distribution Company, Integrated Energy Distribution & Marketing Limited was named as the preferred bidder.
However, the bidders that offered the highest amounts of money for the electricity generation companies were approved as the winners.
With the approval, the highest ranked bidder for each of the companies is required to post an additional bid security (Preferred Bidder’s Bank Guarantee) in the form of a Letter of Credit or bank guarantee for 15 of the transaction values within 15 business days of notification by the Bureau of Public Enterprises.
The approval was given at the sixth meeting of the NCP for the year, presided over by its Chairman, Vice-President Namadi Sambo, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Chairman, NCP Technical Committee, Mr. Atedo Peterside, briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting.
He said the NCP approved Amperion Power Distribution Company Limited with a bid of $132m as the core investor in Geregu Power Plc.
He said the council also approved Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited, which offered an annual fee of $50,760,665.18 and a commencement fee of $257m as the preferred bidder for the concession of the Kainji Hydro Power Plc.
According to Peterside, the NCP also approved North-South Power Limited, which offered an annual fee of $23,602,484.87 and a commencement fee of $111,654,534 as the preferred bidder for the concession of Shiroro Hydro Power Plc.
He said, “The privatisation body also approved that Transcorp/Woodrock/Sumbion/Medea/PSL/Thomassen, with a bid of $300,000,000, is the preferred bidder for the core investor sale of 100 per cent shares of Ughelli Power Plc.
“NCP also approved that Amperion Power Distribution Company Limited, with a bid of $252,000,000, as the reserve bidder for the core investor sale of 100 per cent shares of Ughelli Power Plc.
“NCP approved that CMEC/EURAFRIC Energy JV Consortium, with a bid of $201,000,000, is the preferred bidder for the core investor sale of 100 per cent shares of Sapele Power Plc.
“NCP approved that JBN-NESTOIL Power Services Limited, with a bid of $106,500,000, is the reserve bidder for the core investor sale of 100 per cent shares of Sapele Power Plc.”
Peterside added that given that Amperion was the preferred bidder for Geregu Power Plc, the council also approved that Feniks Electricity Limited would be the reserve bidder for Ughelli Power Plc, subject to its bid being revised to match the reserve price.
He said having cleared the NCP approval hurdle, the highest ranked bidders for the generation and distribution companies would be required to post an additional bid security in the form of a Letter of Credit or bank guarantee for 15 per cent of the transaction values within 15 business days of notification from the BPE.
Peterside said the preferred bidders’ bank guarantee should be from a Standard & Poor’s or Moody & Fitch “A” rated foreign bank with a correspondent bank in the country or a Nigerian bank rated “A” by a rating agency approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and be valid for 21 days after the stipulated proposal validity period or any extended proposal validity period.
He explained that the designated preferred bidders would be invited for negotiations with the BPE.
He said, “Within 15 business days after signing of the Sale and Purchase Agreement, the Shareholders’ Agreement or the Performance Agreement, whichever is earlier, or at a mutually agreed earlier time, the bidder shall make a down payment of 25 per cent of the share purchase price.
“Within six months after signing of the Sale and Purchase Agreement or the Shareholders’ Agreement, whichever is earlier or mutually agreed upon time, the bidder will be required to pay the outstanding 75 per cent of the share purchase price to complete the transaction.
“Upon receipt of payment, the preferred bidder’s bank guarantee will be returned to the bidder within a maximum of four weeks.
“After the completion of payment, the handover of the successor company to the preferred bidder will conclude the transaction.”
On the opposition of some state governors to the choice of the preferred bidder for Benin distribution company, Peterside said nobody had been able to make a specific allegation of wrongdoing against the NCP, adding that the exercise was transparent.

Obafemi Martins Rejects Lover's Child; Abandons His Family In Poverty In Lagos

Nigerian footballer, Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins is said to be living large while his family languishes in poverty in Lagos, Nigeria. Sources revealed that the Super Eagles striker and Lavante Football Club point man has allegedly abandoned his family to the mercy of abject poverty.
Sources swore that after the former Inter Milan striker gained fame in 2004, he has virtually turned his back at his family members at Orile Aguda in Lagos. Martins allegedly dumped his family members soon after the death of his mother.
The sources disclosed that some of his family members have resorted to squatting with friends after their Orile family house was demolished by Fashola's administration some years ago. Just recently, Martins bought two houses in VGC, Victoria Island, Lagos worth about N350million along with expensive cars.
Meanwhile, another source hinted that Martins has denied the child he got from a woman who stays in London. According to a reliable source, the lady named Katherine, had a child for Martins but the former Newcastle striker refused to accept the child from her.
Also, Martins' late brother's (Ladi) wife, Mariam, who had a baby for Ladi before his death, we learnt was never given any N5million as pay off as earlier reported in some sections of the media. Instead, it was alleged that Martins chased the poor woman out of his VGC home when she visited him (Martins).
Sources claimed that the woman was reportedly chased away by Martins with her pregnancy. As we further learnt, this has rendered the woman homeless as Martins allegedly sold Ladi's house and Range Rover Sport.
Also another source said the late Ladi's legal wife, Ugomma, who has two kids, is reportedly not living well in London where she works as a mortuary attendant.
It is expected that Martins will respond to these allegations soon and when that happens you'll get his own side of the story.

News Update: Teenage girl killed by policemen in Abuja is buried

Lucy

Lucy

Family of Lucy Ukpong, the 18-year-old sales girl killed by some policemen in Apo, Abuja on October 12, have said nothing short of justice will be acceptable to them.
This is just as Lucy was buried amid tears at Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.
PUNCH Metro had reported on Friday that the police authorities had pleaded with the family to accept an amicable settlement of the matter.
But Lucy’s uncle, Tony Ukpong, who spoke with our correspondent in Etinan on Saturday, insisted that the family was more interested in justice.
Although he acknowledged that the police had made entreaties to the family, he said family members were still meeting and had yet to decide whether to dialogue with the police authorities or not.
Tony said, “Justice must be done because the way Lucy was killed is not acceptable to us; we demand justice and nothing less.
“We have no demand but we want to go into a dialogue. We have not stated any of our demands. Negotiation is ongoing within the family that is the best I can tell you.”
Meanwhile, the National Coordinator, Greater Gbagyi Development Initiative, Gbaiza Gimba, has said the organisation will not allow the matter to be swept under the carpet.
Gimba, who spoke with our correspondent after the burial, said the group took interest in the matter in line with its principle that justice must be done to aggrieved parties.
“We believe that Lucy died for justice. We shall be ready to give her justice. Whatever the situation, we will be talking with our leaders, our traditional institutions in making sure that justice is done to ameliorate the suffering of the son that she left behind,” he said.
He blamed police brutality on bad leadership, adding that the leaders had abdicated their responsibility.
Gimba observed that in developed countries, policemen use rubber bullets to disperse crowd during civil unrest, wondering why the Nigeria Police always use live bullets to disperse protesters.
He said, “In crisis, police were supposed to go with teargas, but because there is no control over issues by the government, that is why anything can happen in this country.
“If police are shooting, they might be telling us that they are shooting to defend themselves, but it is not within our power to say this is how it should go. We will continue to make sure that the right things are done for justice to be given to whom it is taken away from.”
A sympathiser, Okon Tom, said the killing had also shown that the police were not for the masses but for the rich and privileged members of the society.
He called on civil society groups to ensure that justice was done to Lucy by identifying and bringing the killers to justice.
Lucy, a sales girl at a photography shop, was hit in the chest by bullets fired by policemen from the FTC Special Anti-robbery Squad on October 12. She had only spent one month on her job before the incident.
The policemen claimed they had come to enforce the order on demolition of illegal structures by officials of the development control department of Abuja Metropolitan Council.
But the policemen, according to findings, were on illegal duty as the council had denied sending them to enforce the order.
Lucy’s remains were buried on Saturday at 1.13pm at her family’s compound on Udo Inyang Street, Etinan. Apart from her parents, she also left a son, Devine Godswill, behind.

Suicide bomber hit us during Holy Communion – Survivors•15 killed, 100 injured in Kaduna church bombing, reprisals

• Clockwise: Victims of the suicide attack on St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Ungwan Yero, Kaduna at the Garkuwan Hospital. Another victim receiving treatment at the hospital. Interior of the church after the attack ... on Sunday.

The suicide bomber who killed eight Catholic worshippers in Kaduna on Sunday drove into the church as worshippers knelt praying and the priest was serving the Holy Communion, eyewitnesses and survivors said.
The bombing, which happened at the St. Ritas Catholic Church, Ungwan Yero, Malali, Kaduna State, also left 100 injured. However, seven persons were reportedly killed in the reprisals that followed the blast.
A victim, Jacinta Oko, said, “We just heard the loud sound of the bomb blast when we were preparing to take Holy Communion. Before I knew what was happening, I found myself on the ground. I can say that so many people died because it affected the side where the choir members were sitting.”
A 30-year-old mother of four, Veronica Johnson, who also survived the bombing, confirmed that they were in the middle of the service when the suicide bomber hit the church. Johnson, spoke at the bedside of her two children-victims at the St. Gerard Catholic Hospital.
She said, “We were in the church, and it was during the consecration when everybody was kneeling down and praying. All of a sudden, we heard the deafening sound of the bomb.
“The bomb went off near where the choristers were sitting. So many people died, and so many people were injured. I saw some people lying down flat within the church premises.
“All of my four children were in the church when the thing happened, but my husband was not in the church. They all sustained injuries. One is just four months old.”
Another survivor, Ishaku James, said when the suicide bomber attempted to enter the church, he was prevented and he (bomber) reversed and rammed into the church through the fence.
He said, “There are many dead and injured people who were taken to Garkuwa Hospital, Saint Gerald Catholic Hospital, Army 44 Reference Hospital and Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital.
“The suicide bomber used a Honda CRV SUV. The church is called Saint Rita’s Catholic Church, Ungwan Yero, Malali. The bomb blast happened at about 8.30am when the Parish Priest was blessing the sacrament.
“Even if there were security men, they couldn’t have stopped the bomber because he came driving with a force and crashed through the fence of the church, and not through the gate of the church. The car used by the bomber got burnt, and the body of the bomber was left dangling on the wall of the church.
“So many people died in the church as the bomber crashed through the wall and hit the area where the choristers were. It means that many of them must have been badly affected.”
Children who were in the Sunday school class were also affected. The fate of the Parish Priest Rev. Father Bonny Baza, who reportedly sustained a serious injury to his face, was not known as at press time on Sunday. His Honda SUV, with Kaduna State number plate AE979ZKW, which was damaged by the impact of the bomb explosion, was later seen parked at the St. Gerald Hospital.
The National Emergency Management Agency confirmed the number of deaths in the suicide attack as eight as at 1.45pm on Sunday.
The NEMA Public Relations Officer, Yushau Shuaib, told one of our correspondents in Abuja that over 100 people had been confirmed injured, adding however that the number was inconclusive. He said that the agency’s personnel in Kaduna and other stakeholders collaborated in the rescue efforts at the blast scene.
“After the explosion at the worship centre, NEMA rescuers in collaboration with other stakeholders have so far confirmed eight dead and over 100 people injured. This figure was arrived at 1.45pm after inspection,” Shuaib stated.
Dead and wounded
At the Garkuwan Hospital along Sultan Road, one person was confirmed brought-in-dead while the Barau Specialist Hospital had recorded about four deaths as at 4pm. Three bodies were also deposited at the 44 Army Reference Hospital, all in Kaduna metropolis.
Archbishop of the Kaduna Catholic Diocese, Bishop Mathew Man’oso Ndagoso, who was at the St. Gerard Catholic Hospital, enjoined Christian youths, especially Catholics, to shun violence. He urged them not to embark on reprisals. He noted with sadness that children were mostly affected in the attack.
Reprisal killings
But the reports that came in after the attacks showed that the youths did not heed the priest’s counsel. Eyewitness claimed that there were reprisals by youths believed to be Christians after the attack. Eyewitnesses also claimed that six persons, including two okada riders, were killed during the reprisals.
An AFP correspondent reported that he witnessed a man being burnt alive in the reprisal by a mob believed to be Christians. The correspondent also reported claims of clashes between some Christians and Muslims.
Although there were reports of a partial curfew imposed on the area as a result of the attack and the reprisals, this could not be confirmed as press time.
The state Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Addenaike, who was at the scene of the incident, appealed for calm. He said security operatives were on top of the situation.
He added that men of the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force had been deployed in various locations in the Kaduna metropolis to maintain law and order.
“I cannot confirm the number of casualties as most of them, including the remains of the bomber, have been taken to various health centres in the metropolis for attention,” he said.
No reprisals – KASG
As the evening wore on, the Kaduna State Government moved to reassure residents of the city that they were safe and that there were no reprisals.
The Senior Special Assistant (Media) to Governor Patrick Yakowa, Mr. Reuben Buhari, said that anyone caught spreading such false information would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
He said, “The Kaduna State Government condemns the attack on innocent people at the worship place today. It was inhuman, barbaric and uncalled for. We are appealing to the good people of the state to refrain from carrying out reprisals,” Reuben said in a statement.
“In particular, we want to urge the people to completely disregard the rumour making the rounds that there are reprisals in some parts of the state following today’s(Sunday) attack on the church. It is completely false. There is nothing like that going on in any part of the state.”
Jonathan blasts terrorists
Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan has condemned the Sunday incident, saying it has shown that those behind the attacks in parts of the country do not mean well for Nigeria.
Jonathan made the submission in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.
The statement noted that the President was extremely saddened by the explosion. He described it as “barbaric, cruel and uncalled for.”
“It is obvious that these people do not mean well for Nigeria and its unity and development,” he said.
The President, however, assured that the nation would not give in to the “forces of terror and retardation”.
Jonathan also commiserated with the Catholic Church, family and friends of the victims of the bombing, assuring them of government’s resolve to deal with the threat of terrorism .
Although no group has claimed responsibility for the Sunday bombing, an Islamic sect, Boko Haram, had taken responsibility for three suicide attacks on churches in Kaduna State.
Boko Haram’s insurgency in northern and central Nigeria has led to more than 2,800 deaths since 2009.
