33 feared dead as bus plunges into river along Sagamu-Ore expressway

No fewer than 33 persons, including nursing mothers and children lost their lives on Friday when a commercial bus veered off the road and plunged into a river at Ogbere-Ijebu on the ever-busy Sagamu-Ore Expressway.
The tragic incident, we learnt occurred when the bus sided off the dual carriageway and head its way into a dreaded river along the road, killing 33 occupants. Meanwhile, a heavily pregnant woman and three other occupants of the bus miraculously survived the tragedy.
It was gathered that the lucky survivors were said to have landed on some tree’s branches when the bus lost control and veered off the expressway towards the river.
However, men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) led by the Unit Commander in Ijebu-Ode, Mr. Seidu Osilama later came to the scene for a rescue operation.
According to Osilama, the survivors closely cheated death because they fell off the already staggering vehicle and landed on a tree, where they remained until his men came to their rescue.
He added that his men would need divers and a crane in order to evacuate the bus and the corpses of the deceased from the river.
