KUSH, an acronym for kinetically ushering salvation into hearts and homes’) was formed after Emem, Lara, TY and Dapo Torimiro-the only male member and producer met at Rock Solid Choir ,while pursuing undergraduate studies at the University of Lagos.
Under a short time they got CEO of Spirit Rose Entertainment and elder brother to TY, Gbenga Shokefun, to get them a record deal with DKG music-an international record label. The debut album, The Experience a 16 tracked LP which spawned hitsLet’s Live Together and Angel followed almost immediately. It was produced in London, Minneapolis and Los Angeles. Sadly, the group, which was a breath of fresh air died unceremoniously in 2004, shortly after its soprano singer Lara got married in Lagos. Despite constant denials, and a promise of a second album they drifted apart: Today, Lara, a singer and entrepreneur, is married to her partner, Gbenga George. TY, now a celebrated photographer, is also married. And Emem, a rapper and songwriter, now works more as a talent manager and project coordinator, through her company Vzhun. The last time they performed together as a group was in 2004, at the Goethe Institute in Lagos.
