All female cast and crew shine in new movie

Journey to self cast

A Nollywood movie that is entirely written and produced by women, and features an all female cast, is about to hit the movie scene.
The new flick, titled Journey to Self, will premier in Lagos in November.
The female empowerment movie features the likes of Nse Ikpe-Etim, Dakore Akande, Ashionye Raccah, Katherine Obiang, Tosin Sido, and Carol King. And while it is an all female cast, there will be cameo appearances by Kalu Ikeagwu, Femi Brainard, Femi Jacobs and Chris Attoh.
The producers say “it is a movie every woman must take her man to see”.
The movie is directed by Tope Oshin-Ogun and written and produced by Ashionye Raccah of Alleykat Media. It is executive produced by Tosin Sido for Fressia Entertainment.
According to Ashionye, the movie is an intense dialogue-based movie where the characters will take the viewers on an emotional journey.
“It tells the story of four childhood friends who receive news that another long time friend of theirs, Uche, has died.”
As to the decision to partner with Ashionye on the movie, the Chief Executive Officer of Fressia Entertainment, Garg said it provided an opportunity for his organisation to lend its voice to female empowerment.
“The script for the movie is written by a woman, the executive producer is a woman, the producer is a woman, the five leads are women and the director is a woman. All in all, the ‘Journey to Self’ project allows us to support a movement, which is dear to my heart and that is ‘Women’s Rights”.
He said Fressia entertainment is excited about the finished product.
We hope audiences will be also,” he concludes. For Ashionye, who doubles as the managing director of Alleykat Media and the screenwriter of the movie, the love for women empowerment was her driving force.
She said, “As you’re probably aware, I have always been a proponent of women’s rights and female empowerment”.
The film serves as a debut for Naija Info presenter, Katherine Obiang, who recently separated from Who Wants to Be a Millionaire host, Frank Edoho; and sees Dakore Akande stage a comeback to Nollywood since her wedding in 2011.
