Secret of Alex Okosi’s success

Alex Okosi, who heads the pan-African business operations of Viacom Media Networks, is not only a Nigerian, he is also responsible for managing the growth and development of Viacom’s multichannel entertainment portfolio. The portfolio spans 48 countries in sub-Saharan Africa with iconic kids and youth brands MTVMTV BaseVH1Comedy Central andNickelodeon.
Recounting his experience as the Senior Vice-President and Managing Director of Viacom during a special appearance onCNN African Voices two weeks ago, Okosi says, “I’ve been privileged to be able to create content and experiences that people enjoy, localising them to make sure that they cater to the taste of African audiences. We have been very successful, but it’s not just due to my effort.”
On how he landed the job, he says, “Absolutely, I think I was lucky to be given the opportunity to go the USA. My journey has not been one of privilege per se, but one that involves hard work. Many great people supported me and enabled me to move up. But it is really about what you do and how hard you work.”
Other influential Africans that have been featured on CNN African Voices included supermodel Alek Wek, Hollywood actor Djimon Hounsou, Somalian musician K’Naan, Nigerian film director Obi Emelonye, and former Olympian Chioma Ajunwa.
