5,000 note: “Jonathan was deceived” – House of Rep member

The proposed introduction of N5000 single note might have died a natural death, but the dust it raised is yet to settle.
A member of the House of Representatives, Taofeek Buraimo, yesterday, aired his views on the controversial currency, saying President Goodluck Jonathan was blindfolded, deceived, and misled by his government.
While speaking with the press in Sagamu after meeting with the ACN leaders, the obviously agitated Buraimo, representing Remo Federal Constituency on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria, didn’t mince words as he accused the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Lamido Sanusi, of being in shade and out of tune with the reality of the Nigerian economy. He out rightly condemned the president for falling so cheap and allowing his aides to mislead him into endorsing such “an economically unsound action.”
He said, “Honestly, the President just acted cowardly because everybody knew that we were talking about a cashless society and now, you were introducing the use of N5, 000 notes, for what purpose?”
The lawmaker also noted that the  understanding of the economy of Nigeria by the President and Governor of Central Bank  should be  of a major concern to the citizenry, as they are only representing the wellbeing of the masses.
He said, “I always say that for the likes of Sanusi and Okonjo-Iweala; it’s not about where you have studied or that you have been at the World Bank. Nigeria is a different society; we need people that know what is wrong with their own people before they can be managed.”
